I went to Shaun's today, but unfortunately George couldn't make it. However, he passed on ideas for the titles to be plain with a basic font and subtle to not distract from the footage. We also discussed earlier as a group what titles we would have:
Character/actor names, written by, lighting by, music by, produced by, edited by and directed by.
When at Shaun's, he showed me the rough cut of the opening so far and amendments he made to the colour so that the blue did not show up on the coat anymore and there was not as much yellow in the shot. Unfortunately, he could not change the slight tint to the colour of legs in the shots.
When deciding on titles, we used the programme Nero which had an easy-to-use title input when you chose the position you wanted them and then a selection of fonts, sizes and colours. It also included different extrance/exit effects.
Firstly, we decided 'horizontal fade' would look best when showing the titles against the footsteps, as it follows the same direction of the camera movement. To continue the similarities in title effects, we decided to use 'vertical fade' for titles during the other shots that were not footsteps. Next, we decided on what font we wanted. We chose 'Calisto MT' as is was simplistic but still had definite edges to it to make it stand out. We also felt that a small font, size 10, suited the actors' names but a bigger font would be more appropriate for the production members names.
Next, we decided on where the introduction of titles would look best. We chose every other shot of the footsteps for the character names but saw a good opportunity for a title when Shaun enters the room. We therefore chose to put his name in this place and mine and George's alongside the footsteps. Next, we thought the shot of pouring the whiskey was a good example of lighting, so chose to put this title here. We felt the canted shot of my feet wakling away from the camera was an artistic shot so chose this for the editing title. the shot of me walking through the underpass we felt was a good position for a title, so put 'produced by' here. Finally, after looking at film opening examples, we would put the 'directed by' title last when the two footsteps overlap. The main title was tricky to know where to put. I thought it would look good during the shot of the camera panning up to reveal George's dead body. However, Shaun has had previous experience of making titles and had an idea in mind of what he wanted to do. He felt that it would look best after the explosion and fade the titles in from this with a similar fire effect to them. I trusted Shaun's judgement felt the title he made was impressive and worked well in the film.
